Barbara Lucks is the interim sustainability officer with the City of Springfield's Department of Environmental Services. She joined the City in 1994 as materials recovery/education coordinator and has since been responsible for planning and implementation of the market development and education/information components of Springfield's Integrated Solid Waste Management System. This includes working with schools, environmental organizations and community organizations to encourage waste reduction and recycling activities.

Barbara has extensive public speaking, media interaction and committee interaction. She works with economic development professionals to attract business and industry to Springfield that utilizes recycled materials in their production processes or services. She also is involved in public information activities for Springfield's Public Works Deparemtn and the newly created Department of Environmental Services in areas that include wastewater, storm water, air and water quality education.

She serves as project manager for Springfield/Greene County Choose Environmental Excellence program and the Show-Me Yards & Neighborhoods Project. She is immediate past-chair of the Ozarks Clean Air Alliance and also is active in conservation/environment-related community volunteer activities. She is a Master Gardener and Master Naturalist and is certified by the Missouri Environmental Education Associated. Effective July 1, 2011, Barbara was appointed as the City of Springfield's first sustainability officer, heading the newly created Sustainability Division.
